Our organization appreciates and relies on the time and talents of our many alumni.  Help us today:

  • Student recruitment - 40% of SD Mines freshmen first heard about us from an alum.  Thank you!
  • Area Meetings and events - events all over the country to reminisce and connect.
  • 50-Year Reunions and All School Reunions - to connect SD Mines alumni; July 2020 - 5 Year Reunion.
  • Alumni Networking - aid new graduates in finding employment; help for alumni changing careers; resources for moving to areas; and having fun!
  • Zero Year Reunion - connect with graduating seniors to induct them into their lifetime legacy as SD Mines alums.

Give Back to SD Mines by Adopting a High School

Looking for a way to give back to SD Mines?

Consider spreading the word about SD Mines by adopting a local high school in your area.  It requires 3 easy steps:

1.  Contact Samantha Dunn, admissions counselor, at (605) 394-6144 or by email at samantha.dunn@sdsmt.edu to request a packet of information along with your personal School of Mines experiences.

2.  Make an appointment with a school administrator, counselor, teacher, or other point of contact.  In this meeting you will share the packet of information along with your own SD Mines experience.

3.  Complete a visit summary form and return it to Samantha Dunn.

Hardrocker Heritage Award

The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology has established the Hardrocker Heritage Award to offer in-state tuition and fees to highly qualified, first-time, full-time nonresident freshmen who have at least one parent or legal guardian who earned a degree from SD Mines.  It is designed to attract exceptional students to South Dakota in areas of critical need, this award recognizes that children of alumni have a stronger connection to the region and are a priority for the state to support.

With a 98 percent placement rate and average early-career salaries of $65,500, SD Mines is already a valuable investment for out-of-state students.  In a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, the University topped the list of "Best Public Universities for Returns on Investment" and has been ranked one of "America's 100 Best College Buys" for 17 consecutive years.

Now, with the Hardrocker Heritage Award, equivalent to approximately $3,000 a year for the average student in 2014-15, nonresident students with a connection to South Dakota have even greater incentive to attend the university.
